NZEST 2010 Scholarship Applications

Sarah Taylor, Executive Officer of NZEST, welcomes applications for NZEST Scholarships in 2010.

NZEST promotes top academic performance and our scholarships are highly regarded by the secondary and tertiary education sectors.

The NZEST Scholarship programme commenced in 2004 and to date 57 scholarships have been awarded – visit the NZEST Scholars’ gallery. To gain an NZEST Scholarship students must study at a New Zealand University, so we are encouraging top students to stay in our country.

NZEST has established a database for its scholarship winners so tracking their academic careers should provide a most interesting longitudinal study. Organisations which sponsor post-graduate scholarships have indicated their interest in our database, so being an NZEST scholar could provide further scholarship opportunities.

In 2009 147 students from 90 schools from throughout the country applied for scholarships. Your school must nominate you to enter for an NZEST scholarship and each school may enter 2 candidates. However, if a school has an outstanding group of students, it may enter a maximum of 4 candidates with approval from NZEST.

NZEST acknowledges that to submit an application for a scholarship requires a considerable amount of work, so all students receive a certificate confirming they were nominated by their school for an NZEST scholarship. Scholarship winners receive special certificates and presentation of their scholarship usually takes place at their school.
