Who sets and moderates the examinations?

University lecturers from throughout New Zealand set the scholarship examinations, working with senior schoolteacher moderators to ensure the examinations are pitches at the appropriate level and within the NZQA syllabus.

An NZEST moderator must not be teaching a specialist scholarship class, thus ensuring the integrity of these examinations.

Who marks the examinations?

Examinations are marked by panels comprised of university personnel and experienced seventh-form teachers.

Examiners provide marking guidelines and meet with the marking panels to ensure consistency.
