NZEST 2010 Scholarship Programme



Closing date for applications is Friday 26 November, 2010.

Schools will be sent scholarship packages in Term 3, 2010

NZEST has pleasure in advising that 10 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be offered in 2010 and would like to acknowledge the generosity of -

  • Aurora Energy, Dunedin – 2 scholarships for Otago students
  • NZ Funds, Auckland – 1 scholarship
  • Renaissance Ltd, Auckland – 2 scholarships
NZEST scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to top academic students who will be studying a full-time course at a New Zealand University.

The NZEST Trustees reserve the right to offer fewer than 10 scholarships (if there are insufficient applicants deemed worthy) or more than 10 scholarships (if the applicants are exceptionally talented). The decision of the Board of Trustees of NZEST in relation to the award of scholarships shall be final and no subsequent correspondence will be entered into.



Qualification
i Students must have attended secondary school in New Zealand in years 11, 12 and 13
ii Students must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand
iii Awards will be made to students in the year after they leave school, ie students leaving school in 2010 will receive their scholarships in April 2011. NZEST scholarships cannot be deferred.


Selection procedures
Selection of the scholarship winners will be based on the following criteria:
  i academic portfolio confirmed by school with certified copies of results
ii recommendation of school principal
iii handwritten personal statement about academic interests - see guidelines on form
iv results of external examinations, NCEA, CIE and IB
v interview of shortlisted candidates, selected from i-iv above


Nomination by schools
Schools may nominate 2 students - however, if a school deems it has an outstanding group it may ask NZEST to accept further nominations.

Time frame
  2010 Term 3 Scholarship information sent out to schools
    Term 4 Applications close 26 November, 2010
  2011 Jan/Feb Obtain external examination results
March/April Interview shortlisted students.
Announce winners of NZEST scholarships

Payment of scholarships to students
First instalment of $2,500 paid in April
Second instalment of $2,500 paid in July, subject to successful completion of first semester.
